Sweet little man...

When learning meets Mommy free time..

Soooo, I've heard that TV is way to stimulating for people as little as sweet Mo... but the other night he was fussy, due mainly to our napping issues, and I was beat so I sat him in front of the TV with me and I started to play Tetris. Lo and behold the kid was happy as can be. As long as those little pieces were moving he was content. Well, today I decided to put in our Baby Einstein Video that teaches basic signs. He LOVED it! When little babies would come on the screen he would coo and talk with them. Very cute!

Thanks, Becky, for cluing me in on this great give away! I must say, I WANT one of these, ha!!

Smiley faces.

The day after...

Well, the night wasn't as bad as I had thought. Jeremiah bathes and feeds him around 8pm for his final feed of the night, and last night he really wasn't interested in eating. He maybe ate an ounce or two. After that he woke up at 12:55am, 3:30am, 6am... I would nurse him and put him back down. At the 3:30am feed Jeremiah came in to put him down so I could go back to bed and he did the same at 6am. Good man :)
Something else on my mind this week is nap time. His naps during the day have been very, very wacky. It all started around week 7 - he would wake up about 45min into his nap. Baby Wise calls it the "45 minute intruder" and says it is either a feeding issue or a sleep issue. I tried feeding and sure enough he would take a full feed, but now he won't nap longer than 45 minutes period. Not quite sure what to do about it. I try pacifying him but that hasn't proved successful. After talking with Stacey yesterday I am going to try "pick-up/put down" (from Baby Whisperer) today. I feel like he really needs 1.2/2hr naps during the day and I want to help him get there. I decided to stay home from Bible study today and keep the rest of the week low-key and close to home to help him get there. Any suggestions from you ladies that have been there would be great!
Here's to a happy Tuesday!

2 Month Appointment.

Wowzers. That was not fun. I am still spinning from watching Moses cry that hard. I cried too. There has to be a better way to vaccinate our babies. There has to be. Despite some help from baby Tylenol, Moses has had a very rough afternoon. My sweet, happy baby has still been very sweet but very, very unhappy. All he wants to do is be held and he digs his head into my chest and tries to block out the world. Finally, we had to put him in the Moby so we could eat dinner and, well, use our hands. For the first time his crib, usually his favorite place to be, is an unacceptable place to be (what will the night hold???).
Despite the un-fun shots, Moses is doing great. He weighed in at 13 pounds 4 ounces and is now 24 inches long. He is quite popular with the nurses and other doctors. They all have to come by and say hello. This kiddo is so darn cute and smiles at everyone - he wins them over in a heartbeat! Jeremiah and I are so blessed to have such an easy going son. What a doll :)

"I had a girl."

This morning as I was leaving the gym one of the big muscly men asked me if I had a boy or a girl. "I had a girl." I said I had a girl. WHAT?? Then I had to tell him, that I didn't have a girl, but I really had a boy. He looked at me like I was nuts. I tried some silly comment about lack of sleep, but there is really no recovery from that. Sigh.

Stretchy face

I got it on video! When I replayed it with Moses sitting on my lap he was mesmerized by himself!

Sleeping through the night.

Last night at 3:30 am I was begging Moses to go back to sleep. This morning I was awake wondering when he was going to wake up. It is funny to me that I want him to sleep through the night and, when he does, sometimes I lay awake wondering when he will wake up!
Well, at least one of us got a good nights sleep, ha ha ha!
PS - I am writing this very early in the morning as I wait for him to wake up (crazy, right?), and I think I may just explode. When a 3 hour man turns into a 8hr + man it is not easy on a breastfeeding mama!

Our trip to Albuquerque!!

We got back from Albuquerque yesterday. Moses was such a trooper. He slept the way there and back, for the most part, and when he was awake he would just play with his hands (his new favorite activity). He handled the lack of routine a lot better than I did, too! He was sleeping 8-9 hours at night pre-trip and now he is back to being a 3 hour man, but I'm sure that will change in the next week or so. We got to see so many of our friends and family, and yet there were so many we didn't get to visit with. We need weeks, not days, to catch up with everyone!! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us!

Here are several pictures!

Moses and Granny getting acquainted. I told him she needed those tubes, but neither of them seemed to pay any attention to me!!

Moses and Aunti B. She is a lifesaver. She helped me with bath time that night and even showed up early Wednesday morning to help us get loaded up and on the road. And, of course, she re-stocked my coffee supply. We love Auntie B.

Moses seemed to enjoy his bath time. I rigged "Grandpa's" sink with a towel and some Burt's Bee's and it was almost as good as being at home!!

Nap time with Nana.

Grandma Charlotte stopped by for a visit. She used to take care of ME when I was little!

This picture is just ridiculous. Grandma has her two babies: Barney and Moses.

Nana bought Mo some little rattles for his hands!

You have no idea how hard it was to get this picture!!

What trip would be complete without seeing the Wallace's?? Kate was sweet enough to get up early to see us off. Kai was sleeping :)

Last stop of the trip was to see the Macivor family!! Moses seemed pretty happy to be around a man again! He was pretty happy just hanging out with Duncan.

A few things...

...that I love about being Moses' Mama.
  • Sometimes when he is nursing he gets distracted and looks up at me with a gummy grin. Then he gets back to business. He wrinkles up his nose and makes snorting noises until he is eating again. Cracks me up everytime!
  • Watching Miah be Mo's Daddy. The other day Mo was staring into space, playing with his fingers and I asked Miah what he thought Moses was thinking about. Without skipping a beat he said, "Advanced physics." Umm...
  • When I get Moses up from a nap I undo his swaddle and let him stretch and wake up slowly. His little arms barely go above his head when he stretches and he makes such a silly face. I must get this on video. I want to remember it forever.
  • When Moses sneezes he lets out a big "Achoo!!" and then half the time he goes "WHOA!". SO silly!!

He's awake...more to come :)

Here goes nothin'!!

So, the girl who "fears" going to Bible study is headed to Albuquerque tomorrow. That's right, me, Mo and 3 hours of open road. I'm hoping if I leave early enough he will sleep through the trip....
Wish me luck! I hope to see some of you while we're in town. It's a short trip, we're heading home on Wednesday, but Grandma will be so thrilled. Pictures to come!!

Silly lips..

We had a "bit" of a diaper blow-out today that led to a midday bath.

C'mon Ma! What's the hold up?

Sometimes he is so cute I have to take a picture as we're heading out the door...

Too funny...

This picture was taken at a job site that Jeremiah is working on. I went to check out their progress a couple of days before Moses was born. Something about a HUGE pregnant woman wearing a hard hat that matches her outfit is just hilarious...

Nursing: A comedy of errors??

My lovely lactation consultant (LC), Rebecca, called today to check in with me. When I told her the latest she kinda laughed. She suggested I call my midwife and give her the run down of what's been going on because maybe she would have some insight into such a "complicated case." So I wrote out, week by week, how breastfeeding has gone. Here is a summary. It's kind of funny. In a not funny kind of way.
Week One
Moses is born. Get help from the LC at Mercy. Need more help. Call my mil's friend. Need more help. Call doc. She refers me to LC at San Juan. Meet Rebecca.
Week Two
See Rebecca for the second time. Later that week go to Urgent Care where I am diagnosed with mastitis and put on antibiotics.
Week Three
See Rebecca for the third time. Mo and I go see our doc who says I don't have mastitis, I have thrush and the antibiotics are making it worse, so I stop taking them right away. Start treatment for thrush.
Week Four
See Rebecca for the fourth time.
Week Five
Figure I should just suck it up.
Week Six
Decide strategy from week five is dumb. Call midwives who prescribe some more meds for thrush that really help. Yay!!
Week Seven
Get mastitis for real. Yikes. Ick. Ouch. Back on antibiotics. Oh no! Thrush and mastitis? Back on treatment for thrush.

I can't imagine that many folks read to the end of this blog...but if you are still reading I hope you can laugh a little with me. I hope I can put all this good experience to use some day!!

Swaddle Me?

This is how I found Moses this morning. Look at the legs sticking up in the air!
